The Intentional Growth Center, Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, is delighted to announce that Melanie C. Gordon has joined the IGC team as Lead Consultant: Children's Ministry and Faith Formation. We are excited to come alongside Melanie and support her calling, her vision for ministry, and her passion for children and their faith formation in the local congregation.
Melanie holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Clemson University. She is the author of What Every Child Should Experience: A Guide for Teachers and Leaders in United Methodist Congregations, Children's Ministry Guidelines for 2013--16 Quadrennium, and co-authored Guidelines for Weekday Preschool Ministry and Growing Everyday Disciples: Covenant Discipleship with Children.
Melanie's heart for serving others carried her to East Africa, where she created and produced a documentary film on the Christian response to genocide in Rwanda. She also served as Chaplain at a feeding ministry in Harlem and developed curriculum for the United Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, North Carolina. Melanie is a member of the South Carolina Annual Conference and John Wesley UMC in Greenville, South Carolina, where she helps serve breakfast in the feeding ministry.
Most recently, Melanie served as Director of Ministry with Children in the Leadership Ministries Division of Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Driven by a belief that children are born with an innate sense of wonder and spiritual curiosity, Melanie is dedicated to helping teachers, leaders, and congregations create an experience that invites, engages and empowers children to build a mature and vital faith.
